Beyond our borders

The International Section of Micro μ brings twelve award-winning short films from around the world to Athens, presented to the Greek audience for the first time.

Films that have stood out at major international festivals meet different cinematic cultures, stories and creative voices.

For the first time this year, the International Section becomes a competition: the audience watches, votes and chooses its favourite international film.

PORKATAL

16’ | France, Turkey

  • Engin, who has lived in prison with his mother since birth, encounters the outside world for the first time when he turns six. Sent to live with his relatives in a village, he struggles to adapt to this new life governed by unfamiliar rules while searching for a way to reunite with his mother.

Rabbit Heart

  • An abandoned factory site. Twelve-year-old Hannes pushes his little brother Oli into increasingly dangerous tests of courage with a bow and arrow. When he puts them both in a life-threatening situation, their power balance begins to crumble. 

CITY OF OWLS

  • On the last evening before her departure, Vera is putting her small sister to bed. To hide the real reason of her leaving, she tells her a bedtime fairy tale instead. It's the story of a city swallowed by an eternal night. 

THE UNIFORMED

  • At 18, a young man commits to 17 years in the military. Inside the system, he witnesses things he hadn’t thought possible. Many of his comrades consistently make mistakes or lack the physical and mental endurance. The military is well prepared and quietly removes the deviants from the countless formations they have to perform. The young man holds up well, but Frank, his roommate and friend, has a problem. His repeated failures have caught up with him.

  • At 25, Juliette has greasy hair, absolute certainties, and a broken heart. She also has no place to stay. Thanks to a gift voucher, she arrives at a spa for the next 48 hours and sets her problems aside.

Auntie Lica The Hunchback

  • Eva flies back from France expecting a simple funeral. What she gets is a hunchbacked grandma, a furious village priest, and a coffin that just won’t fit. With the church refusing to bend and the body refusing to straighten, Eva is forced to navigate small-town absurdities, family pressure, and funeral logistics that defy common sense. As tradition clashes with practicality, she must find a way to lay her grandma to rest—without completely losing her mind. A dark comedy about death, dignity, and the bizarre rituals we cling to in the name of respect. 

The Missing Piece

  • After her grandmother’s passing, Alma travels to Greece in order to find the missing piece of a jewel, given to her by her relative before her death. During this initiatory journey in her grandma's footsteps, Alma shall go not only through the grieving process, but eventually find another missing piece: the one tied to her desire for life.

  • There are places where time seems to stand still. A father and son live there, their lives shaped by the rhythm of a small river crossing, everyday routines, and a silence that speaks louder than words. As the seasons pass, one truth becomes impossible to ignore: time never stops, and eventually we all must say goodbye.

  • Alice is quirky, dramatic and extremely out of place in her school. Alice lives off fantasies and her biggest one right now is Lorenzo, a guy who couldn’t be more different than her. The only person who seems to stand her is Angelica, her best friend; who will follow Alice in each quest she’ll put herself into to win her crush.
