Curtain Call for the International Micro μ Festival 2026: Bidding Farewell to “Summer”

On Saturday evening, the Micro μ Festival 2026 concluded its journey just as it deserved: filled with warmth, smiles, and packed screening rooms!

From September 22 to 26, audiences connected across distances from Athens and Thessaloniki to Rhodes, Rethymno, Veria, Ioannina, Copenhagen, Odense, and Paris, united by a shared passion for stories told in just a few minutes.

What resonated most with everyone leaving the theatres was not only the exceptional selection of films, but also the vibrant sense of community—the enthusiastic applause, the lively discussions spilling into the foyers, and a collective audience participation that exceeded all expectations in deciding the winners.

Through the audience vote, the Audience Favorite Award of the Micro μ Festival 2026 was awarded to the film “Chasing Summer” by Asteris Tziolas.

Balancing on the thin line between reality and fiction, the film portrays the final walks of Summer, a female dog facing the painful moment of parting from the woman who cares for her. The role of the woman is brilliantly performed by Mariatti Vlachou.

  • Best Cinematography Award: Michalis Gkatzogias for the film “Surfaces”

  • Best Sound Design Award:
    Giorgis Sarantinos for the film “Chasing Summer”

  • Best Actress Award:
    Adelaida Katside for the film “WINGCLIPPER”

  • Best Actor Award:
    Thanos Koniaris for the film “Root”

In the Student Competition, held across Athens, Thessaloniki, and Ioannina, the festival audience selected:

  • Favorite Student Film 2026:
    “A Trip to His Room” by Eleni Georgiou

  • 2nd Favorite Student Film:
    “Find Fenia” by Lila Barba

For the very first time, the International Section of Micro μ acquired a competitive character, announcing a tie for first place: Ludovico Succio for the film “The Way Through” and Zhenia Kazankina for the film “The City of Owls” .

International Competition

The festival awards and cash prizes, with an aggregate value exceeding €8,000, were generously sponsored by DAMKALIDIS - NIKON, DIGITAL CINEMA SERVICES, RENTPHOTOVIDEO, ABFAB Productions, the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center (Creative Greece - EKKOMED), and the Micro μ Organizing Committee, with the shared goal of empowering filmmakers in their upcoming productions.

Micro μ also hosted a dedicated series of morning educational screenings tailored for students. The initiative aims to expand throughout the academic year, bringing short film screenings to schools across Greece.

Concurrently, in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes de Atenas, FECHA – Festival de Cine Hispanófono de Atenas, and the Huesca International Film Festival, the festival presented a curated tribute to Spanish-language cinema selected by Orestis Rouskas, which received high praise from audiences.

Five days, nine cities, and screenings of more than one hundred films across Greece and Europe came to a close, with Festival Artistic Director Simos Kyparissopoulos renewing this beloved cinematic gathering for Autumn 2027, reaching even more corners of Greece. Competitive and international programs, student showcases, educational initiatives, and an exciting Spanish-language tribute defined this year's edition.
